Upper Egypt or the Sa’id lies in the Southern part of the country. The town of Assuit and the village of Beni Harem cling along the Nile in Upper Egypt, as mentioned in my book Roots & Branches. In Upper Egypt, the Nile valley is very narrow. Life exists along a strip of green agricultural land on either side of it. A good view of this can be seen in the movie Murder on the Nile with Hercule Poirot. Cairo lies some 400km NORTH at the beginning of the Nile Delta or what is called Lower Egypt. The artist is Gertrude Senke and depicts two villages in Upper Egypt
